Mazda is set to breathe new life into one of its most successful models with the arrival of the all-new Mazda6e in the UK this summer.
Following the popularity of the Mazda6, which enjoyed strong sales across three generations, the Japanese manufacturer is now offering a fully full electric successor that blends traditional saloon looks with the practicality of a hatchback.
The Mazda6e will be available in two trims; Takumi and Takumi Plus, both models features excellent levels of standard equipment, Takumi features synthetic leather interior while the Takumi Plus features plush Nappa leather and faux suede. Takumi features a single piece panoramic roof, the Takumi Plus features a split roof with motorised blind. While both models feature a very similar spec, the Plus model generally some additional luxury and improved finishes.
The Mazda6e is powered by a single 78kWh LFP battery which delivers an impressive balance of range, performance, and charging capability.
Official WLTP testing shows a combined range of 348 miles, while rapid charging from 10 to 80 per cent takes just 24 minutes on a 195kW DC charger. With 254bhp and 290Nm of torque, the Mazda6e can take you from 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds.
Mazda has tuned the suspension, steering, and brakes at its European research centre in Frankfurt specifically for UK roads and driver preferences.
The Mazda6e continues the brand’s ‘Kodo – Soul of Motion’ design, it features smooth, flowing lines, a low roofline, and a coupe-like profile that gives it a distinctly sporty yet refined look. Standout features include frameless doors, a bold front lighting signature that animates during charging, and an electronically extendable rear spoiler that not only looks dramatic but also has some practical use enhancing stability.
The 19-inch specially designed aerodynamic wheels enhance efficiency while looking sharp with a five-spoke design and black finishes.
Inside, the cabin embraces the Japanese concept of ‘Ma’ – the beauty of space and simplicity. A panoramic roof floods the interior with natural light, while a floating centre console and instrument panel create an airy, modern, premium feel.
Practicality remains a strong selling point, with a 336-litre main boot complemented by a 72-litre front trunk (frunk), the 72 litres of waterproof front storage area with drainage is great for muddy or wet items.
The cockpit is dominated by a large 14.6-inch central infotainment touchscreen and a 10.2-inch digital driver display; there is also a head-up display. This delivers intuitive access to infotainment and vehicle systems while keeping the driver’s attention on the road. Mazda’s emphasis on the driving experience is evident throughout.
Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director of Mazda Motors UK, commented: “The Mazda6e is the car our dealers have been waiting for. With a nod to the popularity of the Mazda6, it’s a real statement of intent for the future and illustrates how Mazda can bring great design, technology and style to battery electric vehicles.”
He added that the model arrives at an important time for the UK market, fitting into Mazda’s multi-powertrain strategy that includes mild hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and now battery electrics. “The arrival of the Mazda6e in UK showrooms this summer is perfect,” Thomson noted, highlighting its blend of style, value, practicality, and desirability.
With its combination of distinctive design, strong real-world performance, competitive range, and keen pricing, the Mazda6e should appeal to UK drivers seeking a premium electric vehicle that stands out in an ever-crowded SUV segment.
