The Ford Puma has long been one of the UK’s favourite compact crossovers, consistently topping sales charts & battling it out with other popular small crossovers like the Nissan Juke.
Built on the same platform as the Fiesta it should be no surprise that it offers excellent handling and it is great fun drive something that is synonymous with the Fiesta.
There’s also a healthy list of standard equipment, driver tech and practical features. As the Fiesta is now discontinued the Puma is probably going to be the ‘go to’ option for those looking for a similar alternative.
The all-electric Puma Gen-E, launched to strong demand in early 2025, building on the success and popularity of the existing Puma range, offering zero-emission motoring without sacrificing the fun-to-drive aspect. Now, not long after its initial launch Ford is now improving the Puma Gen-E, notably with extended battery range and new driver assistance tech.
The original model offered a WLTP range of up to 233 miles, with a claimed urban range at lower speeds of up to 320 miles. The newer, more efficient battery is offering WLTP and Urban ranges of up to 249 and 340 miles respectively. The improved battery performance brings the Puma Gen-E closer to some rivals on range, one of the few criticisms that was levelled at it on Launch.
Perhaps the most anticipated feature is the additional of Ford’s BlueCruise level 2 semi-autonomous driving assistance tech which will be available as an optional pack.
The advanced driver-assistance tech offers ‘hands-free, eyes-on’ driving on designated UK motorways (BlueZones which stretch 2,300 miles around the UK).
When on a BlueZone drivers can activate hands-free mode, once activated and probably most importantly, an infrared camera tracks the driver’s eyes and head position to ensure they still watch the road ahead.
The system uses cameras and radar around the vehicle, along with speed, steering and braking control.
Features include keeping the vehicle cantered in lane, intelligent adaptive cruise or IACC (maintains a safe speed and distance from the vehicle ahead), traffic sign recognition also adjust the vehicle’s speed to set limits, stop and go technology controls the vehicle in slow moving traffic and as already mentioned driver monitoring uses an infrared camera that ensures the driver is paying attention to the road.
