In a car market flooded with SUVs of all shapes and sizes, Skoda is still offering a more traditional option in the form of the Octavia, available as a spacious hatchback or estate. If you are looking for a company car or spacious family option for travel, there are good options here.
The new Skoda Octavia offers the same practicality, spacious interior and generation specs of previous models with the latest generation offering updated styling and improved interior tech.
Across the line-up there’s a 1.5-litre TSI petrol, a 2.0-litre diesel and 1.5-litre TSI mild hybrid, badged e-TEC.
The petrol engine come with manual transmission, the diesel is available with manual, or auto gearbox and the e-TEC comes with a DSG automatic. The petrol engine offers fuel economy of up to 54mpg, the mild hybrid up to 57mpg and the diesel up to 64mpg. Emissions for the petrol models are as low as 119g/km, 111g/km for the mild hybrid and 118g/km for the diesel, if you choose the diesel with auto gearbox these figures will take a small hit.
The vRS model comes with a high-performance 2.0 TSI 265 engine, capable of 0-60mph in a tad over 6-seconds.
The Current Octavia trim-level line-up consists of the entry-level SE Technology model, the SE L, Sportline and the high performance vRS.
The entry-level model but still stacked with plenty of standard equipment and tech.
Exterior features include 16-inch alloy wheels and LED headlights.
Inside you get a large 13-inch infotainment touchscreen with integrated Bluetooth, navigation and DAB radio. You can mirror and use your smartphone apps with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, there is no need for a cable either as connection is wireless, phone charging is wireless too (if your phone supports it). The 13-inch screen is complimented with Skoda’s 10.25 customisable digital cockpit ‘Virtual Cockpit’.
Comfort won’t be a problem with dual zone climate control and heated front seats to keep you warm in the winter.
There are plenty of driver assistance features too, with front/rear parking sensors, cruise control, front assist (Skoda’s automatic emergency braking system), lane assist, traffic sign recognition and blind spot detection.
The SE L model adds to the SE Technology spec with larger 17-inch alloy wheels, adaptive cruise control, lane assist plus, a heated steering wheel (*on some configurations), keyless entry/push button engine start and drive mode selection. Inside is plusher with faux leather/microsuede upholstery.
The Sportline model features most of the SE L spec but adds sportier features and styling without delivering the full-blown sports performance of the vRS trim.
It features matrix headlights and sports suspension (15mm lower) for improved handling and grip. Inside it gets front sports speats and its own unique Sportline upholstery in part leatherette/fabric.
The vRS model is the high-performance option packing a 2-litre TSI (261bhp) petrol engine capable of 0-60mph in a fraction over 6 seconds (hatchback model). As well as top-spec you get unique vRS sports styling with more aggressive bumpers, interior accents and dashes of vRS branding.
The new Octavia Hatchback & Estate share the same wheelbase, engine line-up, trims, and tech, but differ mainly in practicality and style.
The smaller size of the hatchback will mean it is a little more agile than the estate model. The reason why a lot of people will be choosing the estate model is for the extended boot space. The Hatchback offers near class-leading boot space anyway with 600 litres available with the rear seats up and 1555 litres with the rear seats folded down. The Octavia estate offers 640 and 1700 litres respectively.
