  3. Band 1 and Band 2 Grants for New Electric Cars Explained

Grants for New Electric Cars - Understanding Band 1 and Band 2

New Electric Car ChargingIf you in the market for a new electric vehicle, the government’s electric car grants can help alleviate some of the cost. If you combine the grant with some of our offers on new electric car deals, you can get some very generous discounts off list prices.

If you are wondering ‘how do I apply for the grant’, the process is hassle free as the discounts and final selling price on our website already include the EV Grant.

For either a Band 1 or Band 2 grant an electric car must have 0g/km emissions and a minimum range on full charge of 100 miles (WLTP).

The manufacturer must provide a minimum warranty of 3 years or 60,00 miles and 8 years or 100,000 miles for the battery.

The RRP of the vehicle must be £37,000 or less, while some higher spec vehicles valued up to £42,000 may also be eligible, the caveat here is the higher spec model must still have the same battery capacity and powertrain as the base model valued under £37,000.

It is important to note also that the qualifying RRP must be based on official manufacturers figures.

The grants for Band 1 and Band 2 are £3,750 and £1,500 respectively.

Differences Between Band 1 and Band 2

Band 1 vehicles which qualify for the higher figure of £3,750 must meet some additional criteria, primarily focused on cleaner/renewable energy in the manufacturing process, including the use of recyclable materials. A large portion of this required ‘sustainability score’ is based around battery manufacturing and recyclability.

Examples of Band 1 vehicles eligible for £3,750 grant include:

  • Ford Puma Electric Gen-E
  • Ford E-Tourneo Courier
  • Nissan Leaf
  • MINI Countryman Electric
  • Renault 4 E-Tech
  • Renault 5 E-Tech
  • Suzuki e-VITARA

Examples of Band 2 Vehicles eligible for the £1,500 grant include:

  • Cupra Born
  • Hyundai KONA EV
  • Kia EV4
  • Nissan Ariya
  • Nissan Micra Electric
  • Peugeot E-208
  • Skoda Elroq
  • Skoda Enyaq
  • Vauxhall Corsa Electric
  • Vauxhall Mokka Electric
  • Volkswagen ID.3
  • Volkswagen ID.4
