Renault has unveiled the new Megane E-Tech electric, a comprehensively updated version of its popular compact full-EV car that brings sharper design, improved electric performance, enhanced technology and a simplified trim structure.
First launched in 2022, the Megane E-Tech helped introduce many buyers to electric motoring, and the latest model builds on that foundation with upgrades aimed at making daily driving and longer journeys even more straightforward.
More than two in three original Megane E-Tech customers were new to electric vehicles, and Renault has focused the refresh on supporting that transition with improved range, faster charging and more intuitive connected features. The car is built in Europe at Ampere ElectriCity, with the vehicle and battery assembled at Douai in northern France and the motor produced at Cléon in Normandy.
The exterior has been given a more dynamic appearance, with a fully remodelled front end. A more prominent body-coloured bumper creates a sportier stance, while new diamond-pattern light signatures replace the previous side intakes and help the car look wider and give it the appearance of a lower stance. The closed grille gains a gloss black finish with diamond motif, and the Renault logo sits lower to emphasise a forward-leaning profile. Rear lights retain their full-width 3D design.
The car sits 20mm taller to accommodate the larger battery, while retaining the generous wheelbase, distinctive wheel arches, sloping roofline and flush door handles. Six exterior colours are offered, including a new Satin Blue, with contrasting two-tone paint options available.
The range is now simplified around two trims, the Techno and Esprit Alpine. Techno features body-coloured front bumper trim and new 19-inch alloys, while esprit Alpine adds larger 20-inch wheels and more distinctive styling details. Inside, techno gains a TEP dashboard finish, and esprit Alpine receives updated spectral grey door panel trim with customisable LED ambient lighting.
Power comes from a wound-rotor synchronous motor that uses no rare-earth materials and produces 220hp with 300Nm of torque. It is paired with a new 67kWh usable LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery employing cell-to-pack architecture. The new model offers an improved WLTP range of up to 310 miles.
DC rapid charging increases to 165kW, enabling a 15-80% top-up in around 24 minutes. An 11kW AC charger is standard (22kW optional), while vehicle-to-load capability can power devices up to 3,700W and vehicle-to-grid functionality is available depending on market. A heat pump and battery pre-conditioning help maintain efficiency in varied conditions.
Chassis updates include redesigned springs and dampers, retuned steering for a more direct feel, and multi-link rear suspension. One Pedal driving and four levels of regenerative braking, adjustable via steering-wheel paddles, further enhance everyday usability.
The openR link system with Google built-in remains at the heart of the infotainment system, featuring a 12.3-inch digital driver display and 12-inch multimedia screen as standard. Google Maps supports EV route planning that factors in charging stops to take the stress our of electric driving, while Google Gemini enables more natural conversational voice control. More than 100 apps are available via Google Play, and you get three years of internet connectivity.
New driver recognition tech uses a camera in the windscreen pillar to automatically load personalised settings once a facial profile is created. Smart Mode automatically adjusts driving modes according to behaviour, and a Qi2/MagSafe-compatible wireless charger is offered.
Over 30 safety and assistance systems are available, including intelligent adaptive cruise control, emergency stop assist, predictive eco-driving advice and Safety Score/Coach/Monitor functions. The updated my Renault app allows remote route planning, charge monitoring, cabin pre-conditioning and charger location.
The Megane Techno E-Tech Techno comes well equipped with the twin- - 12-inch screens openR link system, EV route planning, heat pump, battery pre-conditioning, the 220hp motor and 19-inch alloy wheels.
The Esprit Alpine trim adds distinctive styling, 20-inch wheels, power massage seats, a premium Harman Kardon audio and an extended suite of driver assistance systems.
With its sharper design, meaningfully improved range and charging, and more generous standard equipment, the new Megane E-Tech electric looks better placed than ever to appeal to UK buyers seeking a practical, stylish and technologically advanced compact electric car.
