The Qashqai is Nissan’s ever-popular mid-sized crossover/SUV that is built at its UK plant in Sunderland. It has been one of the most popular medium-sized SUVs in the UK for many years now and despite ever-increasing competition it still sells in very large numbers and hits the top ten list of best-selling cars year in, year out.
The latest Nissan Qashqai model sees some new exterior design tweaks that include a new front grille (Nissan say it is inspired by Samurai Armor) and sleek headlights. The front and rear bumpers have also been re-designed and overall, some of the rugged design has been traded for a sportier looking Crossover. The sportier theme continues with a new N-Design trim-level that aims to be the stylish model of the range, with some of its own unique design features.
The trim-level range consists of:

Let’s start by potentially saving you some time, all engines available with Acenta Premium models are 2WD, so if AWD is a deal breaker you’ll need to skip this trim.
Available engines are two 1.3L mild hybrid engines with manual gearbox, a 140PS and a slightly punchier 158PS, fuel economy is almost identical (45mpg combined). The 158PS engine is also available with automatic transmission, fuel economy takes a small hit, and your pocket will take a hit too of around £1600 more.
The final offering is Nissan’s much acclaimed e-Power powertrain, this 190PS hybrid with automatic gearbox has a trick up its sleeve. The hybrid system delivers a full electric experience as the electric motor is dedicated to driving the wheels and the petrol combustion engine is dedicated to charging the electric battery.
The end result of this system is almost instant torque and an engine that delivers the best economy and punchiest performance, with 0-60mph capable in under 8 seconds.
The Acenta Premium includes 17-inch alloy wheels, the wide 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen paired with the 7-inch configurable TFT driver instrument panel. There is no integrated navigation with the infotainment system, so if that’s a deal breaker you might need to skip this trim-level. However, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are supported, so you have the option of using your favourite smartphone navigation software, Bluetooth is also included and for comfort you get dual zone climate control
Driver assistance tech includes high beam assist, rear parking sensors, rear-view camera, speed limiter, electric parking brake with auto-hold feature and hill start assist.
Nissan’s semi-autonomous driver tech and even on this entry-level model there’s a long list of features including Intelligent forward collision Warning, front and rear automatic emergency braking (can automatically apply the brakes to prevent a collision with objects, pedestrians, cyclists), intelligent cruise control, intelligent blind spot intervention (can prevent a collision in the scenario where the driver has not seen a vehicle in their blind spot), lane departure warning and prevention, traffic sign recognition with the ability to adjust the speed of the vehicle not the speed limit and intelligent driver alertness.
